Local Vicinity:
The views around Gates Lodge are just about as "away-from-it-all" as you are going to get anywhere in the UK, with endless farmland views, which are a delight in the summer months particularly at Harvest time...You may occasionally be disturbed by the odd passing tractor, and the distant sounds of Cockerels, Peacocks and Cows are a distinct contrast to those of City or Town life and certainly make your holiday a pleasant alternative to those endless airport queues and frustrations! .
The quintessentially English local village of Fressingfield and Metfield are a 5 minute drive away, 15 minute cycle or 50 mins walk past farms and fields. The villages have friendly local shops with an extensive range of quality stock including locally sourced produce, fresh meats and fish, freshly made sandwiches, cakes, pies and pasties made on the premises, plus all your daily essentials.
Fressingfield Church and the adjacent 2AA rosette-famous Fox and Goose Inn are a delightful setting to amble around and stop off and have lunch or dinner either inside its oak-beamed restaurant areas or outside in warmer months overlooking the pond. Many people travel far and wide to stay with us for dinner evenings there so booking is advisable - please let us know and we would be pleased to arrange this for you.
Metfield is a lovely little village with church and local shop - well worth a visit.
There are usually many local fetes and events on in the Summer months, which include the Royal British Legion Summer Fete at Whittington Hall, the Fressingfield fete, Fressingfield Music Festival, open gardens, Local Music, arts and comedy events, and local Classic Car events, to name but a few. Check with us for details.
